focus:Main fields: The Center for Social Analyses is a private institution whose activities are oriented towards social and political research as well as public opinion research. Originally the CSA team worked within the framework of the Research Center for Social Problems at the coordinating center "Public Against Violence" (February-August 1990) and later at the Komensky University within the framework of the Institute for Social Analysis. Among the clients and users of these studies are the Czech and Slovak Governments, the chair of the Slovak National Council, the Ministry for Labor and Social Services of the Slovak Republic (SR), the Ministry for the Privatization of the SR, the Ministry for International Relations of the SR, the Freedom House Foundation (USA), the Friedrich-Ebert-Naumann Foundation and others. Research: Since the beginning of 1990, the CSA has carried out a series of sociologically representative surveys concerning the current positions of the Czech and Slovak populace on social, political and economic problems during the period of transition. The latest statistics focus on the following main areas: the social and political climate; the position of different population groups on the post-communist system; political preferences and social background among supporters of various political parties; public trust in leading political institutions and personalities; the public's view of the hierarchy of social problems; national and racial biases and intolerance; the relations between Czechs and Slovaks; appropriate forms of interpretation for the constitutional state structure and possible consequences of the break up of Czechoslovakia; minority issues in the Czech and Slovak societies; geopolitical orientations of different social classes; hopes and fears, arising from the European integration and the introduction of foreign capital; attitudes among citizens of different political orientations and social status towards economic reform, pace of reform and social consequences; characteristics of the political culture of different classes of the population; alternative interpretations of democratic principles. In 1993 the FOCUS agency founded its sister research company with its office in Brno. FOCUS Brno provides complex research and advisory services in the area of marketing research and public opinion polls. At present, the agency has 7 employees and an additional network of interviewers for data collection in the field, consisting of approximately 650 interviewers distributed all over the territory of the Czech Republic.
