cooperation:The Department actively co-operates with the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Management and Faculty of Natural Sciences at Comenius University, with Academia Istropolitana, University of Trnava, Institute of Sociology and Institute of Political Science at the Slovak Academy of Sciences. On the regional level, the Department has established strong links with other universities in Central and Eastern Europe. The international partners include Leiden University in the Netherlands, Strathclyde University and Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK and Pitsburgh University in the USA.

focus:Teaching: The Department of Political Science was founded to allow students to specialize in the field of Political Science. The Department provides students with conceptions and theories of political science with a special focus on democracy theories, comparative politics, public policy and administration, international relations and political sociology. Research: The research agenda is oriented towards specific theoretical concerns and applied research topics, and specific case studies on the protection and promotion of democracy and human rights. Research: Members of the Department participate in several comparative research projects focusing on post-communist transition, for example: The role of political culture in transition of post-communist countries (in co-operation with C.N.R.S., Paris); Strategies of collective protest in democratising societies (Harvard University and Rutgers University, USA) Local candidate recruitment and party formation in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia (Strathclyde University, Glasgow); Process of the institutionalisation of parliamentary democracy in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia (Leiden University, The Netherlands); Europe agreements (Project organised by the Institute for European Policy in Bonn); Formation of political parties and movements in Slovakia; Research and curriculum development in the field of human rights education; Transition of local government in Slovakia etc.
