cooperation:Within the framework of two TEMPUS projects the Institute of International Relations and Political Science has been co-operating with universities in Belgium (Brussels), Denmark (Aarhus), France Marseilles), Germany (Bonn, Leipzig), Sweden (Umeaa), The Netherlands (Amsterdam, Groningen), and in the United Kingdom (Hull, King's College, Swansea). Presently, the institute co-ordinates a TEMPUS project "Establishing European Studies MA programme" with universities in France (European Institute of International Studies), Germany (University of the Saarland), the Netherlands (University of Groningen), and in the United Kingdom (Thames Valley University).

organisation:A Council in which the academic and administrative staff and the students are represented is the governing body of the institute.
focus:The programme offered at the institute is multidisciplinary, involving courses in international relations, diplomacy, comparative politics, policy studies, economics, public administration, law, sociology, psychology, and methodology. For particular lectures the institute invites politicians from the parliament of Lithuania, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence. There are also a number of guest lecturers from foreign countries. In fall 1997 a Master degree course in political science was started with programmes in comparative politics, public administration, international relations. There will also be interdisciplinary programmes in European studies and international communication; general theory and history of international relations, regionalism, globalism, the essence of the internationalisation processes, international law and international institutions, peace research and foreign policy. The emphasis is put on research of the situation in the post-communist states, particularly the Baltic countries and the former Soviet Republics.
